HVTC Opens New Computer and Internet Facility

In rural Tanzania -- where it is often a struggle to achieve basic health care and education -- a newspaper is often a luxury, and the Internet is a distant dream.  Therefore, the HVTC computer lab considers itself blessed to be able to offer its students and the residents of Hanga the opportunity to not only become familiar with computers, but also the Internet.

With the opening of the HVTC computer lab this past Spring, many Hanga residents were granted their first look at a computer.  And while the concept of using a mouse or typing was baffling to many of the guests, it was clear that they all recognized the importance of this newfound access to the outside world.  The creation of this computer lab at Hanga has been the long-time brain child of Br. Fulgence OSB, headmaster of HVTC.

While studying in America, Br. Fulgence recognized the importance of computer and internet access in our technologically advancing world and dreamed of introducing it to Hanga.  Through the recent advancements in broadband satellite internet technology and the generous donations of Fresh Water Senior Campus School of Australia, this dream was finally made possible.

The HVTC computer lab offers access to 7 wireless laptop computers, which are outfitted with all the latest computer software.  The lab is connected to the World Wide Web through a broadband satellite connection that was also provided by our generous donors.  When there is enough power to run the computers you will find the computer lab filled to capacity with people eagerly wanting to learn to use this new technology.  Since many of these visitors are first time users, Br. Fulgence has also been offering introduction classes in Internet usage, Word Processing, Excel, and Publisher.

One of the first fruits of this newly founded facility was the creation of this website.  This website has been created solely from the technology that we have at our lab and we would like to thank all of our generous donors who have made this new service possible.
