Hanga Abbey Kicks Off Capital Campaign— Building our Future
November 18th marked a momentous day for the future of St. Maurus’ Abbey at Hanga. This past Sunday saw the successful launching of the largest fundraising initiative in Hanga Abbey’s 50 year history. To kick off the capital campaign, a special dinner and presentation session were held for the community members along with guests from America and Italy who were in attendance for this event. During his address to the community and guests, Prior Otto, touched on the significance of the communities’ 50th Jubilee year. His address began by taking a look back at the highlights of Hanga’s missionary service in Tanzania over the past 50 years, but soon moved on to the theme of looking towards the future of the abbey. As the Benedictine community at Hanga looks towards the future it has high hopes. Therefore, it has set many challenging goals that look to further the Abbey’s missionary cause of education and service in East Africa. At the centre of these goals stands the Hanga Abbey Capital Campaign— Building our Future. This fundraising initiative hopes to be the solid foundation off of which the St. Maurus’ Abbey at Hanga can continue to build for the next 50 years.
