The Community at Hanga Celebrates the Life of Br. Lucas Kahise OSB

On Sunday November, 18th 2007, at 3:30 PM in the Peramiho Hospital, God called our loving Br. Lucas Kahise OSB to him.

Br. Lucas Kahise OSB was born October, 28th 1967 in the village of Masege located in the Iringa region of Tanzania.  His loving mother, Msigula Kahise, and his father, Ngwale Kahise, precede him in death.

Br. Lucas Kahise OSB was baptized on the 19th of April, 1981 and received the holy sacrament of conformation on the 4th of July, 1982 in the Usokami Parish of Iringa.  Between1986-1990, Br. Lucas received the O-level portion of his secondary education at the Ruaha Secondary School in Iringa.  He later joined St. Mauro’s Abbey at Hanga in 1992 and became a postulant there in 1993.  In 1994 he began his novitiate training and in July of 1995 he professed his first vows.  Later that year, Br. Lucas OSB was sent to Likonde to complete the A-level portion of his secondary education.

After the successful completion of his secondary education, Br. Lucas was invited to teach at the Seminary at Lighano, which is run by the diocese of Songea.  It was there in Lighano that Br. Lucas OSB taught with all of his heart and effort until God finally called him to his home.

Br. Lucas Kahise OSB loved to pray and was a monk who was always prepared to do the will of God.  He was also a monk who was always ready with a joke when it was appropriate, and one of his many passions was to study the Holy Scriptures like the Bible, Catechism and also the history of the Church.  Br. Lucas OSB was also a hard working monk, who always had a lot on his plate, but who was passionate about his work of teaching which he did with great skill and knowledge until the last minutes of his life.

After a courageous battle with Malaria and blood problems, Br. Lucas Kahise OSB passed away on Sunday, November, 18th 2007 in Peramiho.  Br. Lucas was of monk of great qualities and was one who understood what it meant to live a devout religious life.

Lord, please give him eternal peace, and be the light that shines on his path towards his eternal resting place.
